A medical emergency onboard the Victoria of Wight operating on the Portsmouth to Fishbourne car ferry route is causing delays of up to 60 minutes this afternoon (Monday).
The emergency was first reported to passengers by Wightlink at 13:53 this afternoon, setting about warnings that delays may occur as crews onboard the cross-Solent ferry wait for the emergency services to attend.
Since then, Wightlink have issued a confirmation message at 14:34 updating customers that due to the aforementioned medical emergency onboard its car ferry service, some passengers travelling to and from the island and the mainland can expect to see delays of up to 60 minutes affecting their journey.
Despite the delays, customers are being advised to check in for their booked sailings as usual, with teams working to reduce the delays.
UPDATE @ 17:19 – Another medical emergency has taken place on a different vessel part of the cross-Solent ferry operations fleet, this time on the St Faith, causing increased delays for passengers.
An update issued at 17:19 by the cross-Solent operator now warns passengers of an updated 90-minute delay following the 2nd onboard medical emergency of the afternoon, leaving just 1 out of the 3 ferries operating on the Portsmouth – Fishbourne route yet to encounter a medical emergency.
Passengers are still being advised to check in as usual for their booked sailing time.

Hmmm. Coincidence or the shape of things to come? Recently we were booked on board the 16.40 from Portsmouth to Fishbourne and got a text that it would be delayed by an hour because of a medical incident on board a ferry. Then we got another message that there would be further delays. We went to the ferry port to see if we could get an earlier boat and were told our crossing could be as late as 8pm. In the end we rebooked to go from Yarmouth. Since then we’ve had a ferry diverted to help search for a missing paddle boarder who actually wasn’t missing and an increasing number of delays and cancellations. As I said, pure coincidence or something going on because of changing attitudes to elf and safety?
Maybe Wightlink are telling porkies.
Politicians do it all the time, doesn’t do them
any harm.
AAAAAAh bless, did somebody falling ill requiring immediate medical attention and somebody reported missing at sea put you out, you are one selfish person, just hope its you that doesnt need help one day.
I hope the unwell person/s are recovering and as for the paddle boarder, whoever it was reporting it in trouble should be thanked and not critisised.
Fair play at least genuine reasons for a change rather than an
essential crew member who didn’t go to work because they are
babysitting
Lol
I pray persons involved are well and make a speedy recovery.
Bad batch of sausage rolls?
We need a Gregg’s on the island, that will solve the bad batch of
sausage rolls, who doesn’t love a Gregg’s sausage roll.
